Course Description
Review physiological and biomechanical changes during pregnancy and explain how these changes influence massage positioning, pressure selection, and session planning.
Identify indications, contraindications, and precautions for prenatal massage across all trimesters, including high-risk pregnancy considerations and scope-of-practice boundaries.
Demonstrate safe prenatal massage positioning techniques (side-lying, semi-reclined, bolstering strategies) to ensure maternal comfort, circulation, and fetal safety.
Apply evidence-informed massage techniques to help reduce common pregnancy-related discomforts such as low back pain, pelvic tension, hip discomfort, edema, and upper-body strain.
Explain the potential benefits of prenatal massage on stress reduction, pain modulation, sleep quality, and functional movement, based on current research and clinical guidelines.
Integrate professional communication and client education strategies, including informed consent, collaboration with healthcare providers when indicated, and post-session self-care recommendations.
Materials needed: Sheets and face cradle cover, 3 pillows, note taking materials.
Instructors: Lori Dobbert
Lori is a licensed massage therapist with over forty years of professional experience. Originally licensed in Florida, she earned a BS in Exercise Physiology from the University of South Florida and went on to practice massage in Massachusetts for fifteen years while also teaching in both Massachusetts and New Jersey. Her career has spanned resort and day spas, medical settings alongside osteopaths, orthopedic surgeons, and physical therapists, as well as corporate massage environments, all of which inform her comprehensive and evolving approach to bodywork and education.
